After Care Instruction for Implant Bridge

Implant Bridge Home Care Instructions

Congratulations on your new implant-supported bridge!

Proper care at home is essential to ensure your implants heal well and last for many years. Please follow these instructions closely.

Immediate Post-Op Care (First 24–48 Hours)

  • Do Not Disturb the Area: Avoid touching the implant bridge with your tongue or fingers.
  • Bleeding: Minor bleeding is normal. Bite on gauze for 30–60 minutes if needed.
  • Swelling: Apply an ice pack to your cheek (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off).
  • Diet: Eat soft, cool foods. Avoid hot foods, alcohol, and straws.

Oral Hygiene Instructions

Starting 24 hours after surgery:

Brushing

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or electric toothbrush (after 1 week).
  • Brush gently around the implant area twice daily.

Rinsing

  • Rinse 2–3 times daily with a saltwater solution (½ tsp salt in 8 oz warm water).
  • Avoid alcohol-based rinses unless prescribed.

Cleaning Under the Bridge

  • Use floss threaders, super floss, or interdental brushes daily.
  • Gently clean under the bridge to remove trapped food and plaque.

Diet Recommendations

  • Eat soft, non-sticky foods for the first week: eggs, mashed potatoes, soups, yogurt.
  • Avoid hard, crunchy, spicy, or sticky foods.
  • Stay hydrated with water (avoid carbonated or sugary drinks).

Avoid These Habits

  • Smoking or vaping – delays healing and increases failure risk.
  • Using teeth to open packages – can damage your bridge.
  • Grinding or clenching – if you grind at night, consider a night guard.

Follow-Up & Maintenance

  • Attend all scheduled post-op appointments.
  • Professional cleanings every 3–6 months are essential.
  • We will monitor bone and gum health around your implants regularly.
